A round-up of last week’s people moves at LPs and GPs around the world
LPs
ABP, the Netherlands’ largest pension fund, has appointed Jack Julicher as Interim Executive Director of Investments, following the departure of Rianne Lemsom, who was Interim Chief Investment Officer (CIO) from July 2024 to October 2024 before leaving. Julicher was previously CEO of Asset Management and CIO at asset manager ASR.
The California Institute of Technology’s (Caltech) Endowment has appointed Ken Lee as CIO, overseeing a $4.5bn investment portfolio. He was previously EVP, CIO for Children’s Health System of Texas – managing a $3bn portfolio of donor-endowed funds, reserves, and corporate cash.
The State Teachers’ Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) has appointed Aaron DiCenzo as Interim CIO effective April 1, following the retirement of Matt Worley, who was Deputy Executive Director – Investments and CIO. DiCenzo is currently the Director of Alternative Investments and has been with the public pension fund for nearly seven years. STRS Ohio posted an annualized net return of 8.21% over the past 10-year period.
GPs
European credit manager AlbaCore Capital Group has promoted Davide Chiesa to Partner, Head of Research in London. He joined in 2024 as Head of Research, a newly created role leading the investment team’s credit research analysis. Before that, he was a Portfolio Manager and Head of European Credit Research at CQS. Albacore is currently raising its fourth flagship direct lending fund, targeting $4bn, according to Preqin data.
US middle-market firm Comvest Private Equity has promoted Matt Kunz to Partner, Alex Ray to Managing Director, Business Development, and Stephanie Tack to Senior Associate, Business Development. Kunz joined in 2021 as a Principal from Concentric Equity Partners. Ray was previously Director of Business Development and joined in 2022 from the Heritage Group. Tack joined Comvest in 2012 as an Associate and supports sourcing efforts and front-end legal document management process.
UK-based Octopus Investments has launched a private debt strategy and appointed Alan Cauberghs as Head of Private Debt. The firm will begin by exploring asset-backed lending in infrastructure and real estate. Cauberghs’ was previously Head of Private Assets at Generali Investments, and before that, Head of Private Assets at Schroders. Allan Vlah has also joined the private debt division as a Senior Portfolio Manager from River & Mercantile Infrastructure, along with Freddy Murray as an Investment Director from MRY Renewables, and Martin Zdravkov as a Portfolio Manager from DWS Group.
Chicago-based S2G Investments, a VC firm investing in food and agriculture, oceans, and energy sectors, has appointed Mary DaSilva as Chief People Officer and Kevin Vincent as Chief Compliance Officer. DaSilva joins from The Vistria Group, where she was most recently Partner & Chief Talent Officer. Vincent joins from the US Securities and Exchange Commission, where he was an Exam Manager.
Star Mountain Capital, an employee-owned private equity firm, has hired Jeff Feinberg as a Managing Director and Strategic Portfolio Partner. He joins from Littlejohn & Co, where he was a Managing Director, and previously held roles at Investindustrial, Sun Capital Partners, and Alvarez & Marsal, where he was Co-Founder and co-leader of the firm’s Private Equity Services Operations group.
San Francisco-based private equity firm TSG Consumer Partners has promoted Beth Pickens to Head of its London office. She joined TSG in 2019 as a Managing Director from William Blair, where she was Managing Director and Head of European Consumer Banking.
Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe, a New York-based private equity firm, has hired Dennis Dresser and Anne Maloney as Operating Partners. Dresser was previously an Operating Partner at Maven Equity Partners, while Maloney was Chief People Officer at Sheilds Health Solutions. The private equity managers’ latest fund, Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe XIV, closed in July 2023 for $5.0bn, according to Preqin data.
