Our history

Preqin was founded in 2003 and has since grown into a leading provider of financial data and information for the alternative assets industry. Clients rely on Preqin's extensive database to perform due diligence, benchmark performance, conduct market research, and identify investment opportunities.

Our products and people are frequently recognized for industry awards. Notably, we were honored in 2024 with a King’s Award for the ‘Enterprise in the International Trade’ category – the most prestigious award granted to a UK business.

Today, private markets represent the fastest growing segment of asset management, with alternative assets expected to reach nearly $30 trillion by the end of the decade – which has meant an even greater need for standardized data, benchmarks, and analytics in the industry. This insight led to BlackRock (a client of Preqin) acquiring the company in 2025 – in turn empowering the delivery of integrated investment, technology, and data solutions across private and public markets to serve clients’ whole portfolios.

For decades, investors in private markets have lacked the robust data they need to make fully informed decisions and incorporate private assets into their portfolios at scale. By marrying Preqin with BlackRock’s technology offering, we are even better placed to tackle this challenge and help clients build more diverse, resilient portfolios by delivering the transparency and insights they seek.
