Hycamite TCD Technologies Oy

Established in 2020 and based in Finland, Hycamite TCD Technologies Oy produces clean hydrogen and solid, pure carbon by splitting methane, the main component of natural gas and biogas. Laura Rahikka (CEO), Matti Malkamaki, and Niina Gronqvist are the co-founders of the company. In August 2025, Hycamite TCD Technologies Oy raised an undisclosed amount of venture funding from new investor CMA CGM. The company provides industrial clients with low-carbon hydrogen and sustainable carbon products by utilizing its proprietary thermo-catalytic decomposition (TCD) technology.

By breaking down methane using proprietary catalysts and heat, Hycamite can utilize methane from natural gas, biogas, or industrial side streams in its pyrolysis process. The firm's technology requires only 13% of the energy needed for electrolysis, making it an energy-efficient solution. Furthermore, the process releases no emissions into the atmosphere, and the catalysts used are sustainable. The hydrogen produced can be used as an industrial raw material or fuel, while the solid carbon obtained from the decomposition process has various applications, including lithium-ion batteries, concrete, composite materials, and filter purifiers.

Hycamite's carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology also contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The company plans to utilize the August 2025 funding to expand its methane-splitting technology, which generates low-carbon hydrogen and solid carbon materials.
